the ANTI blog- which i'm sure i'm not the first to blog about

With the mashed and rehashed and pounded-into-me idea of NOT being so public, of maintaining some shred of privacy, I feel a little uneasy about having joined no less than 10 new social networking sites in the last 24 hours. Am i just begging to be hacked, have my identity stolen, dragged through the mud and then left in a digital ditch for all the world to see, FOREVER?
This just feels wrong.
I was already a little twittery (aren't i punny?!?) about joining facebook in the first place, but have sank nicely into the comfortable easy-boy stance of letting my friends' pictures keep my other friends updated on my life. I feel like Facebook takes all the relevant parts of a blog, or twitter, or what have you, and ties it into a neat little bundle that doesn't have you surfing the web like a Hawaiian in Australia.
At least i brought my nose plugs.

  1. This was an incredibly amusing post! I'm curious as to whether or not your thoughts on these things have changed at all now that you've spent several more weeks immersed in these technologies.

There is a lot to be said for carefully considering what information you intend to make public and which pieces of your life you will reserve as private--particularly in a world where once it is posted, it is generally permanently available. On the other hand, there is tremendous power in collaboration. I will be interested to see what decisions you make about maintaining a balance between public and private that feels comfortable to you.
